Transcripts

The high school transcript is the official, permanent record of each high school student’s academic accomplishments. Credentialed teachers are responsible to follow all Springs Charter schools enrollment policies and teacher responsibilities as determined by administrative staff including program directors, Senior Management, SCS School Board, and RCOE guidelines as agreed to under the charter.

Academic Advisement

In order to prepare high school students for achieving both their high school diploma and their post-high school goals, it is important to assist them with careful academic planning. The flexibility Springs Charter Schools offers with students’ developing interests and goals requires extra communication and increased accuracy in tracking course requirements for the student.

Transition to High School

Eighth grade students should begin to think seriously about high school to prepare for the decisions and changes which they will face in grades 9-12. In an effort to ease the difficulty that many adolescents have in making the transition to high school and to explain our graduation requirements, the SCS Guidance Department has created a Google Slides presentation. High School Credits

Springs Charter Schools provides 7th and 8th grade students the opportunity to earn high school credits in the areas of a-g approved mathematics courses and a-g approved foreign language courses. The policy is consistent with the UC/CSU policy to accept these units when taken in middle school. Parents who would like their middle school student to receive high school units must send a written request to the transcript technician for the courses and units to be recorded on the transcript. It is also important to note that: Another school may not accept the units. Only a-g mathematics and a-g foreign language courses can be considered for high school credit.

Academic Advisement

It’s never too soon to start thinking about college and careers. In fact, early preparation is the key to success. Visit the school counselor in the fall and ask the counselor to help you select classes that will prepare you for college. Try to earn grades of A or B and put extra effort into English and Math. Special Education

The mission of the Springs Charter Special Education Department is to identify and provide services to students who meet federal and state criteria as a student with a disability. Staff is committed to providing a caring community that empowers students to become active members of the school and society, based on their individual strengths and abilities. Parent involvement is considered essential in meeting the diverse academic, emotional, and social needs of each student. Personal/Social Support

Middle School

Middle school is an exciting, yet challenging time for students, their parents, and teachers. During this passage from childhood to adolescence, middle school students are characterized by a need to explore a variety of interests, connecting their learning in the classroom to its practical application in life and work; high levels of activity coupled with frequent fatigue due to rapid growth; a search for their own unique identity as they begin turning more frequently to peers rather than parents for ideas and affirmation; extreme sensitivity to the comments from others; and heavy reliance on friends to provide comfort, understanding, and approval.

The Student Services Department provides a wide variety of professional support services including highly qualified special education, mental health, and student intervention staff. Department decisions are data-driven and student-focused.  Department philosophy and vision align to the Springs Charter Schools vision of empowerment that allows parents and students to have an active role in developing an educational model that is personalized to the student’s interests and strengths.  Departmental policies and procedures adhere to legal compliance and educationally sound best practices. Pupil Services staff members seek to engage the student and support the parent in achieving academic, social, emotional, and behavioral success through an individualized approach to supporting each student to achieve their highest potential.
