Suicide Prevention, Intervention and Postvention Protocol
The Governing Board of Springs Charter Schools recognizes that suicide is a leading cause of death among youth and that an even greater amount of youth consider (17 percent of high school students) and attempt suicide (over 8 percent of high school students) (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015).

An overview of Section 504
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (“Section 504”) is a federal law, which prohibits discrimination against students with a disability. It states, “No otherwise qualified individual with a disability …, shall, solely by reason of her or his disability, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance….” Because River Springs Charter Schools is a recipient of federal funding, it is required to provide eligible disabled students with equal access to services, programs, and activities offered by its schools.
