Teacher Jennifer Graham offers a Space Exploration Class to 3rd through 6th-grade students at Springs’ Enterprise and Otay Ranch Learning Centers. In one lesson, for example, she demonstrates how protecting an egg relates to real-world challenges faced by engineers who design things like bike helmets, space crafts, and Mars landers. The students worked with partners to design a “landing craft” that protected their “Eggstronaut” while taking flight from the two-story story balcony of the Enterprise building. Students tested to see if their invention worked and wrote about the results.

Throughout the month of February, Springs Enterprise Resource Center students made Valentines for Vets and deposited them into the Center’s special mailbox to be sent to a Veteran’s Administration hospital for distribution.

Homeschool students taking Learning Center classes at Springs’ Enterprise Resource Center enjoyed a Celebration of School Choice Week. Several of the Individualized Learning Programs (ILP) held in-person, engaging professional development on December 6. Staff members collaborated on student success and received an assessment report from Kim Bagby, and the K-8 staff learned about a new assessment program called ESGI, reported ILP Senior Director Tammy Jackson. She added, “The day also included plenty of PLAY!”

In the spirit of play, Springs Learning Center students at the Pathfinder Resource Center participated in the first bi-monthly Minute-To-Win-It challenge themed to celebrate Fall. Students engaged in fun challenges, including dice stack, marshmallow target throw, ping pong ball toss, cereal box puzzle and the candy corn chopstick pick-up. The next Minute-To-Win-It event will be a Winter challenge on Dec. 16.
