Springs’ SPREEs (Student – Parent Regional Educational Events), “make it-take it” educational workshops for grades TK-8, have been a huge success for the Homeschool community, reported Nikki McAdoo, events and community engagement coordinator. Six SPREES were held in September and October (Chula Vista, Rancho Cucamonga, Temecula, Riverside, Orange County, and Cherry Valley) with over 100 parents and students attending.
Homeschool Education Specialist Michelle Sullivan’s Homeschool presentation, Nikki said, “empowers parents promoting voice and choice.” She encourages parents to create and write a mission statement for their educational goals for their children which aligns with their family goals and to choose a curriculum that matches the personality and teaching style of the parent to their student. Nikki continued, “Our Homeschool parents walked away with a wealth of information, not only feeling better prepared to educate their students but they also had the opportunity to connect and collaborate with other homeschool families in their regional areas.”
SPREEs count as credit toward the Homeschool Parent Certification Program. Parents can continue their education at Springs’ Monday night virtual series called “For Us By Us”; the next event will be held on November 14 and will focus on math manipulatives. Homeschool OR ILP families can REGISTER HERE.
While parents were attending their parent presentation, the students enjoyed the opportunity to connect with other Homeschool students and work with staff on “make it-take it” crafts and educational activities and enjoy fun and games.
