The Summit Springs Educational Foundation (SSEF) had a strong 2020-21 school year, raising and distributing more than $50,000 in grant money to Springs graduating seniors to use for college and trade school and to fund projects at Springs school sites.

Springs’ Palm Academy received 2021 Best of Indio Award in the Schools category by the Indio Award Program, reported Principal Shawna Lewis because the school staff “achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community [which] helps make the Indio area a great place to live, work and play.”

Venture Online welcomed “Kindness Ninja” Brian Williams for a virtual conference entitled “Inspiring Measurable Acts of Kindness” in May. A 4th-degree black belt who has done many media appearances, Brian describes his message as “one that calls students to action and creates measurable change in each school he visits.”

Springs’ iShine Student Center said farewell to Maria Casas, special education instructional aide, who retired at the end of the school year. She originally worked in the mortgage industry, but after staying home for a time to raise her grandson, she opted for a career in education instead. She especially enjoyed working with students with disabilities and has worked for the past four years as a one-on-one aide.
