Springs Staff Receives AVID Training

Springs’ Keys College and Career Prep, Arrow High School, and High School Learning Center teachers spent three days in San Diego learning how to run an effective AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program. The nine who attended are unique to Springs in that they are the only AVID site team supporting the only AVID Springs program.

Topics covered include learning strategies of community building, creating a college and career atmosphere, utilizing digital notebooks, taking Cornell and guided notes, facilitating Socratic seminars, and running an effective AVID elective class or AVID-structured content class. Jennifer Martin, Springs’ principal of KEYS, said, “Of course, as all passionate educators, the learning went well into the evening as the staff bonded over sharing ideas on how to be the very best for students. The AVID model ensures equity and a rigorous learning model for all students; we are proud to be affiliated with and promote the AVID life.”
