Springs Enrollment Grows

Enrollment is up across the board in Springs’ programs and student centers in the new school year; some examples of sites reporting significant jumps in enrollment include the Corona Student Center, Cherry Valley Co-op, and the Bear River Student Center.

Bear River Student Featured in TV Commercial

Bear River Student Center 8th grade student Zuri Miles, 13, is the featured actress in Crystal Geyser’s new 30-second television commercial “After School Trip.”  Click here to watch the commercial.  It was filmed on-location at Mt. Shasta in northern California and took a week to film.  She flew to San Francisco (first time on an airplane), and drove to Mt. Shasta.  She said, “It was so much fun as it was cold and snowing; I don’t get to see snow very often. It was a beautiful and amazing experience.”

New Principals: Riverside & iShine Student Centers

Gina Corby-Potter (pictured) is the new principal at Springs’ Riverside Student Center. She has worked for private and charter schools for 17 years, teaching K-8, and as an athletic director and principal. This is her first year at Springs. She likes animals, traveling to historic landmarks, reading and playing, and coaching sports.

Virtual Village Gears Up for New School Year

Springs’ Montessori Voyage and Virtual Academy are busy preparing for the new school year, reported Lanise Goosby, Virtual Village principal. She said, “Our Montessori Voyage community is growing, and we are working hard this summer to ensure we are ready to welcome our students and families back in August.”

New Curriculum: Algebra in the World

July 14, 2022

Springs is introducing an A-G approved Algebra 2 financial literacy class called Algebra in the World, reported math specialist Stephanie Fryfe. The students learn Algebra 2 concepts through a financial literacy lens. The student will explore systems of equations through planning for savings accounts and analyzing better loan programs.

RVA Moves to Seat-based Enrollment

July 14, 2022

In addition to its new principal, the Renaissance Valley Academy (RVA) will be moving to a seat-based system of enrollment, reported Brian Bailey, vice principal. He explained, “Like many sites, we’ll be moving from an independent study model to a more traditional model in which students are required to be present in class for enrollment. It does present some challenges, but in the long-term, I believe it will work out and be a benefit to us.”

La Fuente Immersion Program Grows

July 12, 2022

The La Fuente program at the Vista Student Center is anticipating significant growth in the 2022-23 school year, reported Sarah Adams, principal. The La Fuente program is a dual language, Spanish-English immersion program for grades TK-8. It served 200 during the past school year, with anticipated growth to 225 to 240 students in 2022-23. It is one of four programs offered at the Vista site.

Springs Group Attends Technology Conference

July 11, 2022

School leaders attended the ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) conference in New Orleans in July. This conference was attended by over 10,000 participants and along with keynotes and hundreds of sessions available, an expo hall was the main attraction to learn more about current technology tools along with learning labs to explore first-hand educational tech tools.
