Springs’ Otay Ranch Academy for the Arts (ORAA) kicked off the new school year with TK/K students playing bingo, 1st graders creating self-portraits, the 3rd/4th combo class making clay figures, the 4th-grade learning cooperation through a Minecraft challenge, and the 5th/6th-grade combo class building mousetrap cars.

Mylabelle Miller, a 2nd grade student with Springs’ Venture Online Program, is becoming an accomplished equestrian. She rides with the Norco Equestrian Academy (NEA) and has come to enjoy horsemanship, riding, and the companionship of the horses. She has joined the NEA Gymkhana Team, in which participants learn to guide their horses through different patterns and receive points based on speed and accuracy.

Inez Valencia, Springs CTE Introduction to Photography and Digital Art and Design Teacher, won first place for a chalk art image of the Joker from the cover of the 1988 graphic novel “Batman: The Killing Joke” painted on the street for the Temecula Art & Street Painting Festival. She chose the image because “I am a fan of the Joker because of his dark humor. I was inspired by the comic cover ‘The Killing Joke’ because he holds a camera and I teach photography. I chose to not include the hat from Bolland’s original because the hair is more vibrant.” Continue reading →
Springs’ Cherry Valley Homeschool Cooperative, which offers in-classroom instruction Tuesday through Thursday and homestudy on Mondays and Fridays, had a great turnout in September for its first-ever Optional R.E. A.C.H. Friday. On this optional day, students had the opportunity to participate in four enrichment and intervention class rotations: Enrichment, Masters of Writing, Math Mates, and Homestudy Hall.

Students at Springs’ Temecula Student Center participated in a back-to-school assembly featuring Music Notes, two Los Angeles teachers whom Principal Valerie Walker describes as people who “love making songs and videos to teach kids.” She continued, “The students enjoyed participating in songs about respect, math facts, and doing your homework.”

A new marine biology class is being offered for 11th and 12th graders with options for students to take the class in person or online. Marine Biology is a fourth-year science course that counts as a life science A-G and will explore all of the diverse creatures that live in the ocean and such non-living factors as waves, tides, and currents.
