Show Tunes Singing Montessori Voyage Student Becomes Internet Celebrity, Heads to NYC to Watch Broadway Shows

Principal Lanise Goosby reports that Springs’ Montessori Voyage 6th grade student Nathan Broxton, age 11, of Lake Forest “has been making his way into the hearts of many and catching the eye of Broadway superstars.” He gained viral attention when a clip of him singing along to “Naughty” from the Matilda movie musical took off on social media.

Celebrities applauded him for his passion, and Delta Airlines agreed to fly him and his family first class to New York City to watch five Broadway shows in three days. He received backstage tours and met the stars of the shows he watched: Aladdin, The Lion King, Wicked, Hamilton, and MJ The Musical.

Nathan said of the experience, “It was amazing. No – amazing isn’t the right word. It was more than amazing. It was spectacular. MJ’s story inspired me, as well as how well the entire performance was executed.” Nathan’s family chose Springs, his father William said, because of its flexible schedule and as “a way to manage safety concerns post-COVID.”

Nathan is one of three children. He enjoys playing out superhero stories with his sister Sophie, who is in Springs’ Virtual Academy program and writes stories and produces music. Nathan’s upcoming plans include participating in a summer theater camp and working with an acting coach. He plans on pursuing acting as a career. He has had multiple auditions and one callback, William said, and hopes to soon “book that first deal.”
