Cherry Valley Student Center is planning major improvements to its campus, including adding six classrooms, a main office, staff parking, an outdoor gathering area/classrooms, and an outdoor performing arts center. The improvements will enable the center to better serve the needs of students as the school population grows, reported Principal Tammy Slaten.

Springs’ Hemet Quest Student Center has begun converting a dance studio into a multi-purpose room (MPR). The space is “much needed,” reported Principal Eric Ballard, “as we do not have a spot for events or students to eat lunch when it rains or if it is too hot.”

Springs High School Music Program teacher Mr. Kenley Nakao is seeking donations of instruments for students to use to form music ensembles at school sites in Riverside, Temecula, and Hemet. Kenley joined the Springs staff in 2021 and is working to build a “robust” music department, however, some of his students are unable to afford instruments on their own As student groups form, they will perform at future Springs events.

Springs’ Keys College and Career Prep, Arrow High School, and High School Learning Center teachers spent three days in San Diego learning how to run an effective AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program. The nine who attended are unique to Springs in that they are the only AVID site team supporting the only AVID Springs program.

Springs’ Palm Academy in Indio has been awarded $17,500 from the Anderson Children’s Foundation to expand its Desert Fox sound studio and animation space. It is the second grant received from the foundation; in 2021, the foundation gave a $12,500 grant to build the studio and purchase needed AnimationNow software so that students could create their own animated stories.

The Summit Springs Educational Foundation (SSEF) will hold an opportunity drawing in August to raise money for scholarships for Springs graduating seniors and to fund projects in Springs classrooms to enhance students’ education. The Foundation leadership is requesting that friends of Springs donate items—electronic equipment, gift certificates for store items or meals at restaurants, or other desired consumer items—to be given away as prizes in the opportunity drawing.
