Abe Wilson, 13, is a Homeschool student with Springs’ Venture Online program. He is in the 8th grade, and has been attending Springs since 5th grade. His family chose the Venture Online program, he said, because his parents wanted “to keep me safe from COVID and bullies.” Since then, he continued, “I have grown to love the curriculum, which provides me with a plethora of free time to perform my extracurricular activities.”
He believes he is receiving an “outstanding education,” and finds his teachers “very knowledgeable and friendly.” He concluded, “The online program is working out perfectly for me.” He took up guitar in 2021, and enjoys composing his own songs. He also plays violin, ukulele, kalimba and his favorite, the cello.
Another hobby is Taekwondo. He has earned his 3rd degree black belt and plans to move on to Hapkido in the future. He has learned kicking, breaking, and rolling techniques, as well as forms, sparring, and self-defense. He noted, “Unquestionably, Taekwondo has played a vital role by instilling meaningful qualities such as confidence, concentration, self-esteem, and focus, which helped me participate in school competitions in front of large audiences and in class.”

He has been a spelling bee winner for the past three years in a row. He said, “I truly enjoy learning new Brobdingnagian words, which help me write impressive essays.” Other interests include computer programming. When he finishes school, he’d like to work as a web developer and cybersecurity officer.
