Springs Teen Takes Second in Riverside County Spelling Bee
Profess Adhikari , 14, from Springs’ Bear River Student Center, earned second place in the Riverside County Spelling Bee, reported Nikkole McAdoo, events and community engagement coordinator. It was his 4th year representing Springs at the event, after taking first place in the Springs All School Bee.
Twenty-six Riverside County students participated in the Riverside County Spelling Bee, which went 23 rounds to produce a winner. Words correctly spelled by Profess include: catarrh (round 14), lokelani (round 15), pralltriller (round 16), and jerboa (round 17). In the final rounds, competitors faced Merriam-Webster challenge words, which are not available for prior study.
Profess is an 8th grade student. His favorite subjects include ELA and math; he hopes to become an engineer when he finishes school. He said, “I entered the Spelling Bee to challenge myself academically and put my spelling skills to the test … It has been an honor to participate, especially in the 100th year of the National Spelling Bee.”
