Our Internships

Students have the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and skills by doing meaningful, hands-on work as an intern. Internship teachers will help students find their internship within the student’s community and in their career interests. The student will complete 120 hours of internship or 4 hours per week that are aligned with the student’s career interest. Students will know how to write a resume, cover letter, letter of recommendation, and participate in an interview. They will also learn about employee expectations and customer service skills which will prepare students for the real world.

Choosing a Career

Career Technical Education: In 2004, State Superintendent of Education Jack O’Connell said: The job of K–12 education in California must be to ensure that all our students graduate with the ability to fulfill their potential—whether that takes them to higher education or directly to their careers. Unfortunately . . . too many of our students are not adequately prepared for either. By raising our expectations for our students, we can and will begin to change that. Planning For College

Starting Out

  • Meet with your school counselor at least annually.
  • All high school academic years (and some middle school) count towards college freshman admissions consideration. The 10th through 12th grade years have the greatest impact.
  • Finish your senior year strong with academics, leadership and community services.
  • Take challenging courses and strive for A and B letter grades.
  • Develop a four year resume of non-academic activities, such as volunteer work, community service, extra-curricular activities, employment, awards & honors, and participation in leadership. Include in the resume years involved in each activity, the company or person/person’s that the student was supervised by, and specific information about each activity. Revise the resume your senior year, and use it when requesting letters of recommendation, to present at college admissions interviews, to send to private colleges, and when writing the college admissions essay (when appropriate).
  • Develop a filing system of all college admissions resources.
  • Start talking with the student about colleges at an early age. Discuss careers, jobs, the student’s interests, skills and abilities.

PE Test

Physical Fitness Testing

All 5th, 7th, and 9th-grade students in the state of California are given the Physical Fitness Test (PFT). This test does not count as part of your child’s grade, but it is required by the state to ensure children are active and healthy according to national fitness standards. The main goal of the test is to help students in starting life-long habits of regular physical activity. California uses the FITNESSGRAM® program to measure students in six areas. However, California removed the BMI test in 2022.  California currently requires five parts be completed annually that show a level of fitness that offers a degree of defense against diseases that come from inactivity. State-mandated Assessments at Springs Charter Schools

At Springs Charter Schools we believe that student learning is best assessed using a variety of methods throughout the student’s educational journey. As state-funded public charter schools, Springs Charter Schools must also participate in all state-mandated testing (ELPAC and CAASPP) for students in grades K-12. See the link below for requirements for each specific grade level. Each assessment is administered at a Student Center or a regional site in order to best serve the varied geography of our families.
