Special recognition was given to teacher Charles Coomber’s 7th-grade class at Springs’ Otay Ranch Academy for the Arts (ORAA) for reaching the highest ST Math completion rate in the school (73% when the current goal is 51%). Springs has opened a new Homeschool learning center in Sherman Oaks. The center offers a 3-day a week Homeschool experience, with an optional 4th day STEAM program. It currently serves grades K-5, and will add a grade next year to eventually serve grades K-6. Students will engage in a variety of hands-on projects and enjoy small group instruction. Springs’ Flabob Airport Preparatory Academy (FAPA) in Riverside was awarded a $24,400 American Airlines Flight Education grant to encourage students to consider careers in aviation, specifically becoming pilots. The funding will be used to provide students with a tour of Boeing aircraft manufacturing facilities, for the purchase of remote control airplanes, for flight lessons and a tour of Coast Flight Training flight school in San Diego.
