HCT Lauren Sommer is teaching Lego Express, a new class at Springs’ Santa Ana Learning Center using the first Lego League curriculum. In this exploratory class, students in grades 4-8 learn coding and engineering while building essential teamwork skills including critical thinking and problem-solving. Students work with their team members to solve problems cooperatively while demonstrating gracious professionalism.
More about FIRST LEGO League Core Values can be found HERE.
Students have the option to build and code with Lego Mindstorm EV3 robots, Lego Spike Prime robots or Edison V2 Ed Block robots. Students using the Lego Spike Prime & Mindstorm EV3 robots work in teams to solve challenges on the First Lego League Masterpiece Robot Game Mat. Learn more about the challenges in the video below.
Students working with Edison V2 robots generate challenges for themselves each week such as programming a robot to hold a pencil and draw perfect circles. Their next planned challenge is to make the robots draw a stick figure person.
