On March 13, 2024, Afiyah Ashrafi and Katherine Odell from the Rancho Cucamonga Personalized Learning Center represented Springs Charter School at the San Bernardino County Spelling Bee.
The San Bernardino County Bee consists of two parts. First, the students compete in a virtual vocabulary round. The top twenty-five students from Round 1 are invited to move on to the in-person round which the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools (SBCSS) hosts at San Bernardino Valley College. Both Afiyah and Katherine advanced to the in-person round and tied for fourth place.
