Virginia Lowell, a 14-year-old 8th grade Homeschool student, is a talented pottery and ceramics maker.  Over the past two years her creations have included a butter dish, teapot, cups and bowls and a remote control holder.

She takes classes through Old Town Artisan Studio, a non-profit that brings art and art classes to the Coachella Valley. She was inspired to get involved with ceramics by her sister, Hannah. Virginia explained, “She knew how to get ‘lost’ in her art and create things that didn’t have to be compared to anyone else’s but were outright beautiful to look at.” Virginia is currently working on a cell phone docking station for her personal phone.
Virginia lives in Indio. She has been part of the Homeschool program since 1st grade. The program is a good fit for her, she said, because “I love being with my family while getting an education. I do not miss the foul language or bullying that I hear about from my public school friends.”
She likes math and history; history appeals to her because “the stories that are real seem so unbelievable sometimes. It’s thrilling to me.” She hopes to be a pediatrician when she grows up “so I can help heal sick children.”  People see her as a “good friend,” she added, because “I like people, enjoy caring for their needs and having fun together.”
