Springs Charter Schools’ Flabob Airport Preparatory Academy in Riverside, serving students grades 7-12, has received a donation of a 60-year-old Briegleb BG-12 glider.

The 1950s aircraft was considered a high performance glider for its era, but had since been abandoned at Warner Springs Gliderport. The Flabob staff is still considering how best to use the gilder; it will either be restored to airworthiness or be taken apart and reassembled by Flabob students as part of their study of aviation. If the latter scenario occurs, said Flabob instructor John Adair, “Our students will have the opportunity to literally dissect the plane and see how it works.”
Flabob Academy began in 2005 in partnership with the Thomas Wathen Foundation and was especially geared to students with an interest in working in the aviation field. Once its new building is complete, it will be one of the few schools of its kind to be located on an operating airport.
