Sydney Lujan is a 12th grade student in Springs’ Journey Homeschool High School program. As part of her education, she completed the CTE photography course pathway and internship. She had the opportunity to work alongside several photographers and was part of a weekend surf photography camp. She also likes to go to car shows with her father and take photos.

Springs’ Homeschool and Temecula Enterprise held Springs’ first Student Parent Regional Educational Event (SPREE) reported Nikkole Mcadoo, Events & Community Engagement Coordinator, followed by events at the Santa Ana and Hemet Student Centers. The events feature parent workshops to help families to be more successful with their children’s education, and assemblies and “Mad Science” projects for students.

Tammy Jackson, senior director of individualized learning programs, reported, “It is with great sadness that we say farewell to our incredible Marla Martindale, director of learning centers, who has been a vital member of the Springs staff for over 20 years. Marla will be retiring and now solely sharing her talents with her grandchildren and the rest of her very lucky family.”

Families were able to enjoy open houses at Springs’ learning center sites, meeting teachers and staff, learning about resources available to them, and enjoying student projects and artwork on display. At Pathfinder, parents were able to view products created by the students enrolled in Springs’ Bizworld class, a fun, project-based entrepreneurship program that promotes financial responsibility, leadership, and teamwork skills for students.

Springs’ Homeschool Leadership team reported that Homeschool Staff had nominated 700 students to receive Certificates of Achievement based on ESLRs. Teacher Mary Hering, who has served students at the Santa Ana Learning Center since 2010, has retired, reported Marla Martindale, director of learning centers. Mrs. Hering taught art, musical theater, and literature; classes performed musicals and plays such as James and the Giant Peach, Aladdin, and musical medleys which introduced students to musical hits on Broadway.

Profess is a 6th grade student with the Bear River Student Center and competed in the Riverside County Spelling Bee; Serah is an 8th grade Homeschool student and competed in the San Bernardino County Spelling Bee.
