Springs Homeschool held its annual math extravaganza with 179 students and 113 parents participating, reported Nikkole McAdoo, Springs’ events and community engagement coordinator. This interactive event, facilitated by the Homeschool staff, focused on play-based learning and encouraged students to explore math concepts through creativity and perseverance rather than relying on memorized formulas or procedures.
The activities not only challenged students cognitively, she said, but also supported their physical, social, and emotional development. One of the highlights was the hands-on learning experience in which students collaborated on strategic math puzzles. They even crafted their own Playdough, enhancing their understanding of measurements and fractions during the rotation.
Nikkole concluded, “By engaging in self-directed exploration, students were able to connect with each other and enhance their problem-solving skills in a fun and supportive environment.”
