Cherry Valley Movie Night Fundraiser

July 11, 2022

Springs Cherry Valley Student Center is presenting an End of Summer Back-to-School Movie Night fundraiser on Saturday, August 6, beginning at 7 p.m. Cherry Valley families as well as friends of the school are invited to come and watch the 2017 movie The Greatest Showman with Hugh Jackman. The musical drama tells the story of the life of P.T. Barnum, the 19th-century showman, and entertainer.

Cherry Valley Career Fair

April 25, 2022

Springs’ Cherry Valley Student Center held a Career Fair, reported Principal Tammy Slaten. Representatives of local businesses and trades set up booths and answered questions. Students watched a heart sonogram, were introduced to welding, and met Rebel the Canine, a trained police dog.

Cherry Valley Cultural Studies Week

March 10, 2022

Springs’ Cherry Valley Homeschool Cooperative’s first ever Cultural Studies Week was a success, reported Principal Tammy Slaten. Students learned about different cultures and shared information by creating display boards which fellow students and staff members viewed during a Thursday Cultural Studies Display Day.

Cherry Valley Holds Student Council Elections

January 18, 2022

Springs Cherry Valley Homeschool Cooperative held its 2nd annual student council elections. Elected officers included Charlee Faith (president), Selene Ceci (vice president), Miranda Hamil, and Fred Munguia. Council members were Trinity Aguilera and Cadence Martinez. Class representatives are Emmalee DonaldsonJonathan WoodruffKennedy Rivera, and Keaton MartinezRuth Morgan serves as advisor. The council members run the school’s morning meetings and lunch activities and help with special events.

In other Cherry Valley news, student Azariah Garcia was selected to be a National Junior Honor Society member.

Grant to Fund Cherry Valley Garden Project

December 8, 2021

Springs Cherry Valley Homeschool Cooperative has received a $500 Literacy for Life grant from the California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom to fund its Garden Project and Outdoor Learning area. The grant was written by a teacher; funds will be used to purchase plants, plant beds, and a covering; students will be able to grow vegetables and use the outdoor area for science projects, said Principal Tammy Slaten.

Cherry Valley Store, Winter Performance

November 29, 2021

The Cherry Valley Student Center will be celebrating early on campus with a Winter Wonderland Store and a Polar Express Winter Performance. With the store, students choose and wrap a gift that they can send home; gifts and wrapping materials are donated by parents and local businesses. The performance will be held Dec. 16, and feature songs by students.

Cherry Valley Teacher Meet and Greet

August 18, 2021

Springs’ Cherry Valley Co-op held its back-to-school Teacher Meet and Greet themed to the Back to the Future movie series, including a greeting from Marty McFly and such props as a DeLorean, hoverboard, and sports almanac. Teachers spoke to parents and discussed personalized learning expectations and tried to ease anxieties and worries related to the new school year. Principal Tammy Slaten said, “We have over 50 new students this year so we wanted them to feel welcome as they arrived for their first day.” Continue reading

Cherry Valley Holds Kindergarten Roundup

July 16, 2021

Springs’ Cherry Valley Cooperative held a virtual Kindergarten Roundup to prepare for the new school year. As part of the Roundup, Tammy Slaten, assistant director, delivered 11 backpacks to students entering kindergarten with the school, which included materials to make a puppet, an alphabet coloring book to help students practice their alphabet, and a countdown to school sheet to follow to prepare for school.

Cherry Valley Returns to Active Campus Life

Tammy Slaten, assistant director of Springs’ Cherry Valley Cooperative, reports that the school’s 150 students have returned to campus. The school serves K-12, including academy and learning center students, and KEYS high school students.
