Welcome back to the new 2019-2020 school year! We’re delighted that you have chosen one of the Springs Charter Schools family of schools as your charter school of choice. We’ve begun our 20th year of operation with 9,126 students, including 6,656 at River Springs Charter School, the largest charter school in the country. We’ve been growing steadily, and this year alone we’ve hired more than 200 new employees. I attribute our success both to you, our Springs families, as well as Springs’ many fine teachers and support staff who work so hard to ensure that our students receive an outstanding education.
IGNITE! CONFERENCE
It was my pleasure to participate in our annual IGNITE! Conference at Pechanga Resort in August. In attendance were a thousand Springs teachers, support staff and administrators who participated in a variety of seminars and activities to prepare for another outstanding school year. Among our many excellent speakers was Gregory McGinity of the California Charter Schools Association, who provided us with an overview of the challenging political environment charter schools face in California in 2019. Another memorable speaker was our keynoter, Vince Martinez of Partners In Leadership, who spoke about the “Oz Principle” and offered tips to our teachers on how to get desired results with students. It was my pleasure to co-present a workshop with Amy Podratz on Understanding Charter Schools, in which we shared the background of charter schools and how they work.
Other highlights included the awarding of a $1,000 grant through our Summit Foundation. And, in keeping with the Oz Principle, our theme for the new school year is “There’s No Place like Springs.” Our staff was encouraged to come in Wizard of Oz costumes, and we awarded prizes for the best costumes.
We’re very excited about the new school year, and are grateful that you have chosen to be part of the Springs family. We’re here to serve you, and very much want your children to have a successful school year. If any questions or concerns arise, please don’t hesitate to contact your Springs representative.
Have a great school year!
