The Montessori Voyage and Virtual Academy staff are excited to kick off the new school year, reported Lanise Goosby, Virtual Village principal. Kick-off events included a Virtual Back to School Event with more than 200 participating. Lanise said, “The staff did a fantastic job communicating with students and parents, setting the stage for what’s to come.”

More than 40 turned out for Springs’ Virtual Academy Park Day which included a new math festival, reported Lanise Goosby, Virtual Village principal. Students used Julia Robinson Math Festival Kits which provided a platform for students to engage their critical thinking and logic skills while solving “intriguing” mathematical problems. Lanise said, “From our youngest TK students to our seasoned learners, everyone had the chance to participate and stretch their mathematical muscles.”

Recent trips for students of Springs Virtual Village (Montessori Voyage and Virtual Academy) include a Winter Wonderland Park Day at Los Serranos Park in Chino Hills and a visit to the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum. Students created ornaments at the park, and were given books to take home and read. At the museum, students learned about dinosaurs and viewed native gardens.

Springs’ Montessori Voyage and Virtual Academy students went on a Safari Park Field Trip. More than 300 attended, reported Principal Lanise Goosby, and the outing “provided a wonderful opportunity for our students to explore lush gardens and witness remarkable wildlife.” The group took a tram ride through the African Plains, and had the chance to explore the Gorilla Forest, Nairobi Village and Tiger Trail.

Principal Lanise Goosby reports that Virtual Academy student Nathaniel Broxton, who was sponsored earlier this year to visit New York City with his family to watch five Broadway shows, has been cast as Travis in the South Coast Repertory’s production of A Raisin in the Sun. The show runs through November 12.

Springs’ Virtual Village held a recent park day at The Heritage Lakes Sports Park in Menifee with more than 100 students and family members attending. The day included games, a book giveaway and snacks. Park days give students the opportunity to meet their peers in-person.

Springs’ Virtual Village—Montessori Voyage and Virtual Academy—had a strong start to the school year, reported Lisa Fahrenkamp, program facilitator II, with the program growing to more than 300 students. Kick-off events included an open house, in which parents and students had the chance to meet staff, Spirit Week, and Menifee Park Day. Also in the works is the first field trip to Safari Park in San Diego.

Springs’ Montessori Voyage and Virtual Academy graduated 19 Kindergarteners and seven 6th graders and 19 Kindergarteners and 19 8th graders respectively. They ended their school year with a park day promotion celebration at Wolf Creek Park in Temecula. They played games, enjoyed snacks and school leaders offered messages of encouragement.
