Agatha McIntyre, age 11, is a Homeschool student in the 6th grade. She lives in Riverside; her younger sister, Gwyneth, is also a Springs student. Agatha’s mother, Jessica, works as an Education Specialist for Springs.
Agatha’s favorite subjects are math, reading, science, and history. She received many awards for her school work last year, including three for her science project studying sunlight. She loves being part of the Springs homeschool program, as it gives her the chance to be with her family. But, she added, “If you want to get good grades, you have to be self-motivated and do the work.”
She likes going on the program’s many field trips. One recent trip, for example, took her to the Jurupa Mountains Discovery Center where she was able to dig for real dinosaur bones. Another took her to the UC Riverside Entomology Department, where she held dung beetles, walking sticks and grasshoppers. She also liked The Lincoln Memorial Shrine in Redlands, which gave her an introduction to the Civil War and the nation’s 16th president.
Agatha hopes one day to live in Monterrey and work as a marine biologist “exploring the deep, dark parts of the ocean we don’t know anything about.”
Her hobbies include singing and acting, which she does at school, church, and at the Riverside Youth Theatre. She recently sang “Let it Be” from the Disney movie Frozen for her classmates. Her dad is a performer as well, playing in the Irish band The McKintree Boys. Besides her dad, Agatha’s favorite performers include Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel (Elsa in Frozen).
