John Couch is in 6th grade. He lives in Hemet.
His mother, Barbara Moreland, said that John has always been advanced academically. She chose Springs, she said, because John was not being challenged in his local public school and needed an individualized curriculum. He’s particularly strong at math; last year in 5th grade, he earned an A taking a 6th grade math class.
John has received many awards at Springs, including for math, reading and PE. Barbara said, “His teachers say that John is an exemplary charter school student.”
John wants to be a computer programmer when he grows up. He remarked, “They earn a lot of money, and it seems like it would be a lot of fun.”
John is adopted. One of his challenges is dealing with the effects of craniosynostosis, a birth defect which causes a misshapen head. He has undergone multiple surgeries to correct it. His mother reported, “John’s doing fantastic. You wouldn’t even know something was wrong.”
He enjoys walking the dog and playing video games. He wants to go to Las Vegas some day to play the slot machines, and to go to Disney World in Florida to ride the roller coasters.
