Student Artist of the Month: Logan Thigpen

Logan Thigpen is a 7th-grade student who attends the Mosaic Program at the Riverside Student Center. It is his second year attending a Springs school. He lives in Riverside.

He likes to draw characters, landscapes, and optical illusions. He draws with pencil, a fine line pen, and Copic markers, and sometimes watercolors. He first developed an interest in art at age 7 while living in New Zealand. Art was an important part of his school curriculum, and he’d copy pictures he’d see in books. To improve his art skills, he researches online how to draw and use art supplies.

Logan is also a swimmer. He’s a member of the Riverside Aquatics Association swim team, practicing two hours or more daily six days a week. He said, “I enjoy swimming because I have made many friends and it keeps me healthy. My favorite and fastest stroke is the backstroke. I want to continue to swim and maybe even swim in college.”

Logan chose Springs, he said, to prepare himself for college. He said, “I have learned many independent skills through my home study days and have discovered my learning styles. My teachers have challenged me to go far beyond what I thought I was capable of and have encouraged me to master each concept.”
