Jerusha Lumley, age 17, a 12th grader with Springs’ Magnolia Student Center, had her historical fiction story, I Hear London Weeping, published in Germ Magazine (read it at http://www.germmagazine.com/i-hear-london-weeping-by-jerusha-lumley/).
Jerusha began writing short stories at age 11, the first for a Springs competition (for which she took first place). Her English teacher, Jennifer Mungaray, described Jerusha as “a very talented writer and artist.”
She says she has “a million stories going through my head, but I cannot physically write them down all at once.” She is currently working on a science fiction piece.
After graduation, she plans to study at Riverside Community College and Cal State Fullerton, where she will do a double major in creative writing and foreign languages, with a minor in music composition. She may go on to earn a degree in occupational therapy to aid children with disabilities, or work as a writer.
In addition to writing, Jerusha plays five instruments, and paints and draws. Her main medium, she said, is graphite drawing, but she also works with colored pencils and painting. She has also been involved in 4-H Club for 13 years.
