Springs Staff Participates in CPI Training

Springs’ Pathfinder Resource Center has hosted two CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) trainings this year taught by Frank English.  Sixteen attended the most recent eight-hour training in February.  Its purpose, explained Mr. English, is “to learn to keep our students and staff safe.”

The program’s objectives, he continued, include learning to identify and know how to respond to various levels of crisis behavior.  Participants work as team members at their school sites in support of this objective.  Each new CPI practitioner participated in the classroom, movement exercises, and certification in techniques to keep students safe when they are having difficulty. They practiced planning, training, problem-solving, and documentation requirements for keeping students and staff safe.  Some participants volunteered to attend instructor training so they could be part of teaching all of Springs the intervention strategies to maximize safety for all.

Marla Martindale, Director of Learning Centers, remarked, “We are happy that many staff members have made time to take this valuable training and thankful to Springs for making it a priority.”
