Sixth-grade students at Springs’ Riverside Student Center learned about percentages and decimals, reported teacher Liz Foscaldo.
Students were given a budget and criteria to follow. After they “shopped” around for their items, they had to add up their subtotal, subtract any coupons, multiply and add the tax, and pay for any unexpected expenses, all while staying within their budget.
If they had any money left, they could choose to splurge a little or save. The first four students to complete the activity were promoted to “Geek Squad” and helped out other students.
