Renaissance Real World Academy student Brian C. of Jurupa Valley has been honored for his exemplary volunteer service with a President’s Volunteer Service Award. The award recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country and was granted by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program. Springs nominated Brian for national honors this fall in recognition of his volunteer service.
Beverly Voechting, principal of Springs’ Magnolia Student Center where Brian attends the Renaissance Real World Academy, said, “Brian C. is an excellent student, athlete, and role model. He goes above and beyond in everything he sets his heart on. His cheerful personality wins many friends. He is kind and respectful. I am not surprised to see Brian honored for his efforts.”
Brian has volunteered over 250 hours in the past year and a half assisting non-English speaking adults to obtain library cards, tutoring children after school, and helping care for animals at a nature center. He said, “To other young people, I will say that volunteering causes me to look outside of myself to see how I can benefit others. While I hope that my service can change the course of some lives or save some animals, volunteering has also led me to a path of self-discovery. I learn something about myself that I would have never known if I had not volunteered. Ultimately, the benefit of volunteering is mutual and never a waste of effort.”
