DaVinci Student Earns Taekwondo Black Belt

Danny Cheatham, a 4th grader with the DaVinci Academy at the Temecula Student Center, earned his 1st Dan Black Belt in Taekwondo. The 9-year-old is the youngest student in his Taekwondo School; he has worked the past four years to earn the black belt. The test took over seven hours, reported his father, Dan Cheatham, as part of a nearly 12-hour day that culminated in belt commencement ceremonies.

Student Artist of the Month: Asandra McFee

Journey Homeschool senior Asandra McFee is the January 2022 Student Artist of the Month. Her artwork is entitled “Back to the Good Old Days.” Alsandra, 17, is a senior in Springs’ Journey Homeschool program. She lives in Temecula.

Grant to Fund Cherry Valley Garden Project

December 8, 2021

Springs Cherry Valley Homeschool Cooperative has received a $500 Literacy for Life grant from the California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom to fund its Garden Project and Outdoor Learning area. The grant was written by a teacher; funds will be used to purchase plants, plant beds, and a covering; students will be able to grow vegetables and use the outdoor area for science projects, said Principal Tammy Slaten.

ILP Professional Development Day

December 8, 2021

Several of the Individualized Learning Programs (ILP) held in-person, engaging professional development on December 6. Staff members collaborated on student success and received an assessment report from Kim Bagby, and the K-8 staff learned about a new assessment program called ESGI, reported ILP Senior Director Tammy Jackson. She added, “The day also included plenty of PLAY!”

Model Airplane Club Begins at FAPA

Springs’ Flabob Airport Preparatory Academy (FAPA) is launching a Model Aviation Student Club (MASC). The club will serve as a vehicle to teach students about science, technology, engineering, art and math, and how model aviation can transform from a hobby into a career in aviation. Students will also have the chance to serve in leadership positions in the club, which can further aid their future job prospects.

Venture Senior Named Student of the Month

December 6, 2021

Venture Online senior Jacob Bullock is a Murrieta Chamber of Commerce Student of the Month and a participant in Springs’ internship/work experience program. He has served as an essential worker during the pandemic maintaining cleaning protocols and e-commerce at Albertsons. He has earned the money he needed to purchase his first car, and recently received a promotion at work.

Learning Centers Offer Art Classes for Grades 3-8

November 22, 2021

Learning Center teacher Jennifer Graham teaches a Getting Back to ART! class for grades 3-8 at Springs’ Enterprise and Otay Ranch Learning Centers. She said, “I love having the kids back in class. We have access to a variety of mediums, and it’s much more fun for the kids to experience art alongside their classmates.”
