Xander Owen, a 6th-grade student in Springs’ iShine Student Center, was recognized for his leadership skills in a recent Shark Tank project where they had to create or improve upon an existing product, reported teacher Kristy Foley. Xander’s group imagined the creation of the “Chore Bot” to help with household chores.
He took it upon himself to learn how to use Photoshop to help his group edit and create an image of the Chore Bot. He also created a website for the group to share in their presentation to the “Sharks.”
Ms. Foley said, “Xander learned how to use both of these resources on his own. They were not requirements for the project. The sky was the limit and their imaginations went sky high.”
She was impressed that Xander “stepped up for his group and took the initiative to learn two new technology resources. He has really grown as a leader.”
She continued, “Xander started the year off admittedly shy. He has since started to share, lead, and is a very active participant in our virtual learning model. I couldn’t be more proud.”
