Brenden Beauchamp, 12, of Murrieta is a 7th-grade student in Springs’ Homeschool program who is also a competitive rock climber. He joined the Homeschool program to train and travel to rock climbing competitions.
Brenden began rock climbing at age 7. He trains with his team four days a week, three hours a day. Training includes gymnastics, conditioning, circuit training, bouldering, sport climbing and speed climbing. He also practices at his local gym, Vital Climbing. He said, “I like the challenge and being able to push myself. Climbing gets me very focused and allows me to be in the moment. It’s all I want to do.”
He has received many awards in his competitions. He won the USA Climbing 2019 MYC Division 2, and in February, qualified for finals and was named 7th in the nation in the Bouldering Youth Nationals in Oregon. As he gets older, he wants to continue climbing all over the world and to compete in the Olympics.
The Homeschool program has worked well for him. He noted that it “has been great because it allows me to have the flexibility to do my work and get more training in. Plus, learning at my own pace allows me to understand things better.”
