Agatha McIntyre, a senior in the Journey Homeschool Program, was the sole participant in Springs’ History Day this year, portraying Lottie, a character involved with the underground railroad. She has participated in the event every year since 7th grade.
Agatha was “completely engulfed” in portraying the character, said her ES Melinda Wickstrom, writing a paper, designing and painting a digital background, creating a costume and learning to play the banjo and writing a song for the project.
Agatha took first place in the county competition last year and went on to a statewide competition. She believes the Journey Homeschool program has played a role in her success, said Ms. Wickstrom, allowing her “to express her freedom and individuality in education” and to improve in her favorite subjects.
