Enrollment is up across the board in Springs’ programs and student centers in the new school year; some examples of sites reporting significant jumps in enrollment include the Corona Student Center, Cherry Valley Co-op, and the Bear River Student Center.
The Corona Student Center’s enrollment jumped from 170 last year to more than 200 this school year; the Center used the final weeks of summer to hire new staff and prepare for the return of students, reported Principal E.J. Whitehead. Teachers reconfigured their classrooms to reflect the school’s dedication to personalized learning.
Enrollment in Springs’ Cherry Valley Co-op jumped from 135 last year to 180 for the new school year, reported Principal Tammy Slaten. The school serves grades TK-12 with personalized learning, she said, “and is known for being a site that is kind and safe.”
The school has been remodeled with new paint, flooring, and lighting to serve students, and plans are in the works to expand the school to be able to accommodate more students, she said.
The Bear River Learning Center now has access to the building in the central part of the school (the Panda building), reported Principal Shane Wickwire, where the Keys program had been located for five years. With the addition of this building, Bear River has been able to add two classes, TK and kindergarten, with two teachers and two ACEs. Enrollment has gone from 600 in the previous year to nearly 700 in the new school year. Mr. Wickwire said, “That is primarily due to the new classrooms, as well as very full rosters.”
School enhancements include a new high-definition LCD marquee paid for by student leadership, new artificial grass, and new flooring and paint in the main building. Mr. Wickwire concluded, “Bear River is looking sharp!”
