Ocean Institute – Sea Floor Explorer Lab/Cruise

Students study the dynamic effects of tectonic plates through the investigation of sea floor geology, sediment cores, micro-fossils, underwater seismology and more. Aboard the R/V Sea Explorer, students get a chance to take part in scientific sampling and exploration. Students will survey the sea floor using scientific equipment including a gravity corer and a side scan sonar.  THIS PROGRAM LEAVES THE DOCK FOR OPEN WATERS

Ocean Institute – Revolutionary War

Participating as a new “greenhand” sailor transporting much needed supplies to General George Washington’s army in 1777, students will appreciate the bravery and spirit of those who risked their lives, facing countless dangers as they pursued the American ideals of free trade. Working together, learning how to defend and maintain the ship, handle sails, navigate, provide provisions and medical care under the looming threat of British attack, students will reflect on the political, social, and economic ideas and interests that affected the colonists during the Revolutionary War. Students will experience the trials of a typical boy in a time when even mundane pursuits (like a career at sea) meant having to take bold and courageous steps for freedom and democracy. (Does not leave the dock)

Ocean Institute – Junior Scientific Literasea

Consulting the literature before conducting an investigation is a common practice among scientists. After exploring four very “kid friendly” scientific papers, students use microscopes to learn about organism life cycles, and dissect a squid to study adaptations and anatomy. (Classroom)

Mirette

On the High Wire

From the creators of The Fantasticks and I Do, I Do comes a fresh and unique story set in the backstage world of circus performers. Mirette is the story of a young girl in 1890’s Paris who convinces a retired high wire artist to teach her his trade, and in turn teaches him to overcome his own fear. We’re thrilled that our audiences will be the first to see this newly revised version of a story that celebrates both the joys and struggles of being a performing artist. (For ages 7+)

Renaissance Pleasure Faire

Live it, learn it!

School day at the Renaissance Original Faire gives you and your students the chance to experience the renaissance faire but with a more appropriate format and more interactive structure. Costumes are encouraged for anyone wishing to become a beautiful maiden, a powerful king, or a playful court jester for a day. Students can make beautiful crafts, have great fun with games & rides, be entertained with fabulous stage shows, and become a knight at the Knighting Ceremony. A spectacular adventure awaits all students from kindergarten to high school.

The Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center – A DAY AT THE RANCH

A DAY AT THE RANCH: Mosey over to the Ranch Camp for a Day at the Ranch. This program includes an emphasis on California early settler history. Students explore the citrus grove, seasonal vegetable garden, visit our windmill and solar powered well, and learn about soil, compost, plant anatomy, photosynthesis, pollination, and the water cycle.
