Springs’ Keys, Arrow, High School Learning Center staff, and students are getting ready for CAASPP testing, reported Administrative Assistant Mia Mahoney. They are practicing logging in to the interface, using the universal tools, and talking through how to deal with test anxiety.
Springs’ Keys and Arrow Programs welcomed Brock Essick, a new ES who will serve the Hemet and Temecula communities. He has been an educator for 19 years at multiple grade levels.
Springs Keys Principal Jennifer Martin related that Keys and Learning Center teachers devoted a portion of their summer time to learning how to become more effective educators by attending the AVID Digital XP conference online to learn how to implement strategies and systems to further all students’ success.
KEYS senior Abigail Lewis-Sandlin is working with the Hemet Learning Center site staff and her classmates to create a friendship garden. She explained, “We have a dirt patch in our lunch area. It’s next to the sidewalk and it’s been just dirt for as long as I can remember. So, I came up with plans for the garden and presented my idea to our school.”
This year, Springs’ focus is PLAY, Keys Principal Jennifer Martin noted, and the Keys staff “shared this notion with the students who fully embraced the idea.”
Springs KEYS graduate Nicole Thompson won second place for her entry (pictured) in the 9-12th grade competition of the Mental Health Matters Poster Contest presented by the Riverside County Office of Education.
Springs’ KEYS College and Career Prep program has begun offering Personalized Options Programs (POP), a new learning opportunity that allows students both greater flexibility and the chance to focus on a few courses at a time.
