Welcome back!
I hope you had a great summer, and we’re looking forward to working with you and your children this new school year! The Springs staff is here to serve you, our students and parents, so if you have any questions or concerns now or at any time this year, please do not hesitate to contact your appropriate school representative.
Our Springs family of schools has grown tremendously in the past 17 years, and it is always my great pleasure to participate in ceremonies marking the opening of new or improved Springs facilities. Most recently, on August 10, I participated in a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for our Bear River Student Center, which houses the Da Vinci Academy serving grades TK-8. The school has a new location, 26800 Newport Road in Menifee, and the move was prompted by a need for a larger school site as the school is experiencing significant growth. The new facility has 12 classrooms, a library and kitchen and two playgrounds and a basketball court. There will be additional classroom space available for students as the school continues to grow.
The Da Vinci Academy’s enrollment is strong, with 360 students for the new school year, but new students are always welcome. Its focus is on learning through curiosity and innovation, with an emphasis on science, art and technology. Electives offered include Lego League, Musical Theater, Spanish, Raspberry Pi (computer coding), Combat code (learning coding through gaming) and chess. If you or anyone you know is interested in the Academy, please contact Lindsay Robson at (951) 225-7650 or Lindsay.robson@springscs.org.
In other construction news, our new Magnolia Student Center facility on Jefferson is nearly ready to open; as of this writing, we’re waiting to secure the elevator permits we need from the City of Riverside. In food services news, we’ve had an expansion in food service at some of our sites, reports Holly Hungerford Cocking, our director of nutrition services. The Hemet Quest Student Center began serving lunch last March, and will serve breakfast beginning in October. The Bear River Student Center and Magnolia Student Center will be serving lunch, and add breakfast service in October.
I wish you all a positive and successful school year!
Sincerely,
Dr. Kathleen Hermsmeyer
Superintendent
