Luke Kalaitzian, a 7th grader with our Venture Online Academy, is an accomplished motocross racer. He took 3rd (of 42 racers) at Loretta Lynn’s Amateur Motocross Championships, meaning that he’s in the top 2% of motocross racers in his class!
The 12-year-old is in his second year at Springs; he joined the program because he needed a modified class schedule to accommodate his racing. He first met Venture’s director, Andrea Leib, at the race track.
Luke began racing at age 6 driving ATVs on sand dunes. He then began riding a dirt bike with a friend. He said, “I loved it and found that I had an ability to do it. My plans are to continue training and racing and eventually have a career in this industry.” Today, he trains two or three times a week, and races in competitions across the country. Luke said, “My goal is to be in the top next year as I continue to train hard.”
His favorite subjects at school include science and history. His hobbies outside of motocross include mountain biking and driving RC cars.
Motocross can be a dangerous sport, he conceded, but “My mom always tells me she has faith that God is watching over me.”
And, as there are many outstanding motocross racers, being the best is a challenge, but a challenge he’s happy to meet. He said, “This is a self-motivating sport and I have to always push myself.”
