Homeschool math teacher Ann Woodruff devised a fun way to teach for “Pi day” and was “surprised how fun this activity was for my 7th grade class.” She related:
“1. First, we went over basic circle vocabulary and calculations.
2. Next, I put out four different sized cans, tape measures (these have inches and centimeters so we used both) and calculators.
3. I had the students measure circumference first and record it.
- Then they measured diameter.
5. Then they calculated the ratio of circumference/diameter and came up with close to pi (3.14…)…..most of the time.
Mrs. Woodruff shared, “It was fun (and easy prep) and something different.”
