Springs students Chloe Esparza, Rafael Ibarra and Cameron Quijada were named State Champions in the Junior Group Documentaries at the California National History Day (NHD) Competition May 8 and 9 for their PBS-quality piece entitled “There it is, Take It. The Leadership and Legacy of William Mulholland.”
The documentary was about the building of the Southern California water system and included a 70-page bibliography with nearly 100 primary sources and 10 interviews with authors and historians. These students will now move on to the National History Day National Competition. Chloe and Rafael are students with the Da Vinci Academy at the Temecula Student Center and Cameron with Casa Montessori Murrieta.
Other Springs students participating in the State competition included Israel Coronado for his website entitled “Nelson Mandela, an End to Apartheid,” Brittany Cordova for her paper on Frankin D. Roosevelt and Alisha Serviss for her exhibit entitled the “Iran Contra Hostage Crisis” which included a handwritten response from President Jimmy Carter to her questions.
