Pathfinder “Eat the Frog” Ritual, Students of the Sprint Program

Shana Diallo, Study Zone aide at the Pathfinder High School Learning Lab, shared a success story from the school’s “Eat the Frog” ritual, popularized by Brian Tracy’s book, “Eat That Frog.” Eating the Frog symbolizes doing the hard things first; to commemorate tackling their toughest assignments, students ring a celebratory bell upon completing a mastery assignment or major project.

Each “frog eaten” earns them a sticker or frog figurine and entry into a gift card drawing. Shana said, “The momentum is real—some students have become dedicated collectors, using the frogs as fuel to keep pushing through their goals. Pathfinder student Melinda Gallegos has been building her impressive collection for two years.”

The High School Learning Lab Team is also pleased to announce a new initiative launched by High School Learning Labs Administrative Assistant II Mia Mahoney: the Students of the Sprint program. This award is designed to shine a spotlight on students who go above and beyond in the High School Learning Lab.

Teachers and aides nominate students who lead by example—whether by showing exceptional dedication to their studies or by demonstrating outstanding citizenship and kindness in the classroom. Each Sprint winner will receive a personalized certificate and a featured shout-out in The High School Learning Lab’s monthly newsletter.

Melinda is a Student of the Sprint, as is Jordyn Rivera, who was awarded a certificate by teacher Ruben Antilla for “The Greatest Comeback in Geometry.”
