The Santa Ana Student Center is launching a “groundbreaking” career exploration program for middle school students, reported Principal Priscilla Moreno-Doorbar, which will introduce students to careers through “hands-on, real-world learning.”
With 15 interactive career stations, such as structural and design engineering, culinary arts, nursing, and veterinary science, students explore a variety of professions by doing the work. One week, for example, they might build a bridge in the engineering station. Next, they might draw blood from a prosthetic arm in the nursing lab. Students use the same tools and techniques professionals use, Priscilla said, “making learning meaningful and exciting.”
This program aligns seamlessly with Springs’ STEAM curriculum, helping students develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, communication, and the ability to engage in teamwork. Priscilla continued, “Each activity is designed not only to build knowledge but also to spark curiosity and confidence.”
Most importantly, Priscilla believes, the program helps students discover their passions and consider what they might want to pursue in the future. “It sends a powerful message: everyone can have a career—no matter who they are—as long as they work for it.”
