Amber Kilman, a lifeguard at Magnolia Student Center, is a gifted swimmer. She has been swimming competitively as part of club and school teams since age 7.
In high school, she competed in CIF for three years and made CIF finals two years. She was also captain of the swim team. In college, she swam for two years at Riverside City College. During that time, she took 8th place in the 100 backstroke and 8th in the 200 backstroke during Conference championships.
In addition to working as a lifeguard at Springs, until recently she taught swimming at Moreno Valley Aquatics and hopes one day to teach swimming at Springs as well.
She said, “I love working at Springs! It is a great place to work and everyone is so friendly.”
Miss Kilman earned a B.S. in Kinesiology from California Baptist University on May 2. She plans to continue her education this fall, hoping to earn a master’s degree in Kinesiology and perhaps a teaching credential as well. She plans on becoming a swim coach for a high school or college.
Studying Kinesiology has helped her as a swim coach in the creation of lesson plans for students, being organized and leading and in helping athletes with injuries. She said, “Overall, my major has shaped the way I now coach today.”
