Journey Teen Participates in Youth Leadership Forum

Journey Homeschool High School student John Lenoir participated in the Youth Leadership Forum, a week-long program for high school students focused on building advocacy and leadership skills, reported Nicole Collins, vice principal. Throughout the program, students collaborated in peer groups, created personal and career leadership plans, and built lasting friendships and support networks.

After completing the forum, participants can continue their growth through regional follow-up events that address post-high school transitions, financial literacy, college and career pathways, work experience, and self-advocacy.

When John attended the week-long seminar over the summer, he traveled to Sacramento and stayed in the dormitory at Cal State University Sacramento. During his time at the conference, John collaborated with other students, as well as leaders, to complete activities where they discussed leadership, personal, and career goals. He connected with other like-minded students to develop his skills as a leader. John stated that during his time in Sacramento, he learned about the importance of being a “strong advocate,” Nicole said. While attending the conference, John also learned about the history of the State of California.
