Wyatt Seabolt, 11, a 6th-grade student at the Corona Student Center with an interest in photography, had the chance to meet and interview legendary photographer Douglas Kirkland as part of an Arts PBL assignment.
Wyatt saw Kirkland interviewed on the television program Good Day L.A. and wanted to interview him for the project. He wrote a letter requesting a meeting, and to his surprise, the photographer responded and invited him to lunch. The pair met in Hollywood and talked for 3 ½ hours and exchanged gifts, said his mother Sue Ingenito.
“He said Wyatt’s letter to him was very motivating, and that he was an exceptional child,” said Ms. Ingenito. “Wyatt soaked up every minute [of their meeting] … it was a great adventure for him; he learned so much.”
Wyatt has attended the Corona Student Center since kindergarten. It’s been a good fit, said Ms. Ingenito: “I love the program. I wished I’d known about it earlier so my other children could have attended.”
