Shawna Lewis, principal of Springs’ Del Rio and Palm Academy Student Centers, reported that the Del Rio site enjoyed a Harvest Festival with staff dressing up as Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs, and students enjoying arts & crafts, face painting, pie the principal and more (pictured are Darlene Blackman and Shawna Lewis). They also celebrated Indigenous People’s Month with presentations by two local tribal leaders to middle school students.
At the Palm Academy site, the school is preparing to open its Desert Fox Sound Studio, an animation studio funded by a grant from the Anderson’s Children Foundation secured by the Summit Springs Educational Foundation. Most recently, the school purchased hardware and software to outfit the studio. In December, the staff will be trained on WonderMedia’s StoryMaker animation software and start using the program with students.
