WHAT IS NHS?

Membership in the National Honor Society and National Junior Honors Society is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a middle/high school student. Springs Charter Schools is proud to sponsor multiple chapters of the National Honor Society, and our chapters are working hard to bring the accomplishments of outstanding students to the attention of parents, teachers, peers, and the community. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service. Our chapters, along with the more than 15,000 chapters in schools across the nation, strive to give practical meaning to the Society’s standards of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

The purpose of NHS/NJHS is:

To create enthusiasm for scholarship
To promote leadership
To stimulate a desire to render service
To develop character

To be eligible for induction to the National Honor Society and National Junior Honors Society, students must first qualify based on scholarship. High School candidates must have at least a 3.5 GPA or equivalent to be considered. Middle school candidates must have grades equivalent to a B+ average to be considered. In addition, candidates must have a record of demonstrated leadership, service, and character.

Membership in NHS/NJHS is optional and more than an honor. It incurs an obligation to demonstrate these outstanding qualities and it also carries a responsibility to the chapter. Membership will include attendance at our weekly meetings, (minimum attendance is one meeting per month) and participation in a chapter service project and an individual service project. The meetings take place virtually.

If you are interested in the opportunity to be selected for membership, please do the following by September 15, 2025. No late forms will be accepted.

  • Complete a Candidate Application Form
  • Request and submit a letter of recommendation from a non-family, community or school staff person to Madeline.Holkeboer@springscs.org

We request that the forms be submitted by the due date to provide the Faculty Council with sufficient time to authenticate the information provided by candidates and to seek clarification in preparation for the selection meeting. Your cooperation in meeting this deadline is an indication of your responsibility and your commitment to being an effective member of our chapter.

If you have any questions about completing the forms or about membership in the National Honor Society and National Junior Honors Society, please feel free to contact the Chapter Adviser, Madeline Holkeboer at Madeline.Holkeboer@springscs.org
