Education

I earned my B.A. from California Baptist University, and my M.A. from Chapman University. I hold a single subject credential in English, and have taught grades 7-12. Though I love both secondary levels, my home is with my high schoolers.

Favorite Hobbies

Soaking up time with my three children and husband is always high on the list. I also enjoy reading or curling up and watching a good movie. Sometimes, I want to be at my computer working on the novel that I hope to someday have published.

Favorite Books

I am a huge fan of dystopian literature. I love the older ones, which I would consider to be canonical dystopia like Atwood’s Handmaid Tale Series, A Brave New World, 1984, Lord of the Flies, etc and then the newer ones like Hunger Games and Divergent.

Favorite Subject

English has always been number one. I enjoy everything about it. Reading, writing, analysis, diagramming sentences… As a child, I used to play librarian, and published/edited a newsletter for the neighborhood kids. I was meant to be an English teacher!

Fun Facts

1) I am a thespian and my entire family is a theater family. In fact, I met my husband in college when he saw me in one of the productions. Our love for the stage was inherited by our kids when they were very young, and between the 3, ages 10-15, they have performed in over 15 musicals. My passion for the performing arts extends into my work as a volunteer, and I serve as President of Riverside Children’s Theater, a non-profit that first planted the acting seed in me over 25 years ago. 2) In college, I worked an internship and wrote script coverage for Chris Columbus’ production company, 1492 Pictures, housed on the Fox Studios lot. I got to read a few scripts that went to production, including Bicentennial Man starring Robin Williams, Monkey Bone, starring Brendan Frasier, and some that didn’t, like The Courier that would have starred Brad Pitt. I also represented the studio at various film screenings in town. 3) I hope to be published. I have a collection of ideas just waiting to be turned into a novel.
