Delaney Drake

Class of 2009

Graduated from Homeschool

Delaney Drake, age 24, graduated from the River Springs Homeschool program in 2009. She went on to graduate from Cal State Fullerton and work as a behavioral therapist for children with autism and related disorders. She explained, “I primarily work in the home, school, and community, helping children deal with social structures and social interactions.” She began homeschooling in 3rd grade with another charter school, but transferred to River Springs because, regarding curriculum, it had “unlimited choices and a monetary allowance for our curriculum. I know my mom was very happy about that. She also loved that Eagles Peak (which became River Springs) did most of the paperwork for us.” Delaney believes her education at Springs was superior to that she would have received in the traditional school environment, and that “it brought me closer to my siblings and allowed me to really explore the subjects in which I was interested.” She liked history, for example, and went on to major in history at Cal State Fullerton. She also explored child development, which led her to her present career. She concluded, “I had such a wonderful experience that I am determined to homeschool my own children.”
